CLAY

Trail Ace

The LAST has the most potent suspension, the best geometry for downhills and also scores highly in the spec. No bike smooths out rough terrain as safely as the CLAY. The sensitive response generates traction en masse.

The new CLAY - Trail Ace

Fast cornering, fun descents and intense uphills - the new CLAY is perfect for single trails. The light weight, the outstanding kinematics and progressive geometry form the ideal basis for individual builds. We use the same frame platform for CLAY as for GLEN and COAL. This is made possible by a new lower shock mount yoke and a shorter shock length of 165 x 45 mm. The new yoke can be retrofitted very easily and noticeably changes the riding characteristics of the frame.

Geometry

The CLAY is an agile and fast trail bike. The geometry and kinematics have been elaborately optimized for the respective frame size to ensure perfect integration into the bike regardless of body size. Especially very tall riders over 2 m in height benefit enormously here. The effective seat angle is specified in relation to the corresponding seat height. In the setup with a 150 mm fork, the focus shifts noticeably towards descents.

Leverage Ratio

Leverage Ratio

The CLAY relies on a progressive suspension system for the best possible riding experience. Through clever design, the CLAY feels significantly more potent than 126 mm of suspension travel suggest on paper. Although coil shocks are fully compatible, we recommend air shocks for the CLAY. As these are lighter and support the agile character perfectly. The progression is given from the optimum SAG point - this value is more meaningful to us.
Anti-Squat

Anti-Squat

The anti-squat values are optimized for each frame size. This means we can guarantee the best possible pedaling efficiency depending on the gear engaged. This is particularly noticeable for small and tall riders, as they would otherwise be far from the optimum due to their low respective high center of gravity.
Anti-Rise

Anti-Rise

The anti-rise values are also optimized for each frame size, so that practically all sizes show the same behavior and have the best possible function. We optimize the pivot points of the respective frame size in order to guarantee the best possible function regardless of the rider‘s center of gravity.

Features

Versatile frame platform

The new CLAY is based on the same platform as GLEN and COAL. There are a total of six possible setups with just one frame by using the different rockers, links and the MX option (27.5 inch rear wheel) as well as the new lower shock mount yoke for the CLAY. GLEN and COAL use the same185x55 mm shock length - the CLAY requires the 165x45mm installation length in conjunction with the new yoke. In addition the system is retrofit-compatible: the rocker and link remain unchanged from the GLEN V3. So if you are already riding the GLEN V3, you can easily convert to the CLAY.
hybrid manufacturing - welding in Taiwan

Hybrid Manufacturing

All LAST bikes are developed, designed and individually assembled for each customer in our manufactory in Dortmund. There we also build the individual bikes for each customer. The production of the aluminum frames relies on a hybrid process. The front and rear triangles are welded, aligned and heat-treated in small batches in Taiwan. In terms of infrastructure, material quality and knowhow, Taiwan is a world leader when it comes to aluminum frame manufacturing. The milling of the bearing seats and all contact surfaces, including the post-mount and threads is carried out locally in Germany. Here on site, we can monitor this quality-defining process much better and react quicker. After CNC machining each front and rear frame is checked by us and the bearings are pressed in.
LAST - Total Bearing Quality

Total Bearing Quality

In order to maintain the most precise diameter as well as shape and position tolerances, we machine on a high-precision milling machine. The special feature of our method is that all machining surfaces on the front and the rear ends are milled in a single clamping operation. This way, we ensure that all bearing seats as well as threads and pivots are aligned parallel to the axis and that the individual frame components are not assembled under tension. All pivot points use full complement bearings made of stainless steel in the standardized bearing size 28 x 15 x 7 mm from Enduro Bearings, which is available worldwide as a standard part. The aim of this complex process is to achieve the highest quality and, above all, longest possible bearing service life.

SEALED C-Lock-RINGS

The C-lock rings of the bearings have an integrated sealing function. For this purpose, they are overmolded with rubber. If necessary, they can be replaced by standard parts available worldwide. The C-lock-rings are colored red in the CAD image.
sealed C-lock-rings shown in red

Captive Hardware

The additional washers required for the trunnion mount are captively pressed into the rocker. The washers additionally seal the bearing seats from the inside and are shown in blue. The lower mounting hardware is made of titanium and PVD coated.

Easy to service and quiet

As a rider-owned bike company, we consciously focus on functional and detailed solutions. More time on the trail and less time in the workshop is our promise. We rely on standards that are available worldwide and are easy to install. Bolted BSA bottom brackets, Sram Universal Derailleur hangers and standardized bearing and bolt sizes are service- friendly and tried and approved. To focus entirely on the trail, our bikes are characterized by an extremely quiet riding pleasure. Everything is manufactured with dimensional accuracy and mounted carefully. The internal cables are effectively damped by anti-rattle tubes and the chain slap is barely audible thanks to extremely soft lamellas. PRESS

Test Ride, Bike Handover and First Ride

We offer guided test rides every 2nd Saturday in Dortmund. In addition, individual rides can also be requested. You can ride your new bike directly with us on the trail when you pick it up in person. As part of a guided first ride, we will support you with the optimum suspension setup and adjust the bike perfectly for you so that you can get out on your home trails straight away - a free service that is very important to us. Our workshop is open from Monday to Saturday, so you can also drop by spontaneously for a test ride.

Spare Parts

Durable and full serviceable bikes are key goals for our team. Of course, we have all spare parts in stock so that the frame can be used for a long period. All spare parts can be collected from us locally or ordered directly via our webshop.

WARRANTY AND CRASH REPLACEMENT

Our aluminum frames are covered by a 6-year warranty on material and processing defects - racing included. Furthermore, if the frame is irreparably damaged due to a crash, our Crash Replacement program with a 50 % discount applies for the first three years from purchase. Since we do stock the individual parts of the frame, it is rarely necessary to replace the entire frame. We approve the aluminium frames for use in category 5 according to ASTM F-2043-13. To be able to use the entire bike in this category, suitable components must be installed.
CLAY

Customize your Bike

You can configure bikes and frames individually as part of our component portfolio. We only use components that we are convinced of and that will work for a long time on the trail. All shocks are supplied with the right tune. Our frames are built by our highly experienced mechanics with great attention to detail and all complete bikes are test ridden before delivery. We are a small team of passionate mountain bikers and are happy to help you configure your CLAY complete bike or frameset.
