TARVO

The lightest
Enduro

“The Tarvo has many parade disciplines: Due to the low weight, the range of use is wider than any other enduro. The first-class workmanship and the quality seal Made in Germany on the frame are unique.”

Max Fuchs / TARVO test in the current BIKE - issue 04/23

The new TARVO - Handmade in Germany

The new TARVO is still the lightest enduro frame in the world and offers even more features in the current state of evolution. Riding fun and performance while maintaining a minimal weight remain the focus of our development. The kinematics are progressive, like every LAST, and the design is reduced to the max. In addition to modified layups, the rear triangle has been completely redesigned. By swapping the rocker arm, the new TARVO can be converted into our all mountain CINTO, but also into the trail bike ASCO as well as the down country bike CELOS. The fact that this concept works is shown by numerous outstanding test results of the individual models. The TARVO is handmade in Germany in a limited edition of 100 pieces per year.

Geometry

The new TARVO allows for the first time to use forks up to 180 mm travel. This allows racers and bike park riders to step up the capabilities of the bike. Due to its balanced ratio of reach to chainstay length, the TARVO is lively and playful. The flat head angle generates a lot of control and the bike can be steered precisely and directly. Chainstay length and seat angle are optimized for each frame size. The effective seat angle is always given in relation to the assumed seat height. We take into account that the rider will also sit higher with increasing frame size. The short seat tubes and the very good retractability of the seat post allow every rider to choose between several sizes - depending on their preference for a longer or shorter bike. To give a starting point for size selection, we name the sizes according to typical rider sizes in centimeters: 165, 175, 185 and 195. Specified is the geometry with 170 mm fork. When using a 180 mm fork, the steering angle flattens about 0.4 degrees and the reach is shortened by 5 mm. The full geometry with 180 mm fork follows shortly.

Suspension System

Progressive Suspension System

Sensitive response and support in mid-travel can only be achieved with a progressive suspension system. The high progression promotes active and nimble riding. The total progression is 37%. Crucial to the ability to use air shocks and coil shocks in the TARVO is the progression from sag to end of travel, which is 23%. There are different methods for calculating the progression. We have changed the calculation method to achieve better comparability. According to the previous calculation method, the progression is 55% and 34%.
Anti Squat

Size-specific Anti-Squat

The anti-squat describes the pedaling efficiency of the bike. Its calculation is based on the kinematics of the bike and the height of the rider’s center of gravity. In order to always achieve the optimum anti-squat, we adjust the position of the pivot points for each frame size and the expected height of the center of gravity. The blue graphs show the anti-squat values for the four frame sizes depending on the rear cog (x-axis). For comparison, the grey graphs show the values for a non optimized system. It is easily recognizable that the blue ones are closer to each other, especially for low gears.
Anti Rise

Anti Rise

The anti-rise value determines how the suspension behaves when braking. A value around 100% has proven to be optimal for us. The suspension behaves neutrally and the grip on the rear wheel remains high. Braking thus has no disturbing influence on the suspension system. The size-specific optimization of the position of the swingarm pivot point results in practically congruent curves for all four sizes of the TARVO, shown in blue.

Features

TARVO

Frame Platform

The new TARVO represents a versatile frame platform and can be converted into a CINTO, an ASCO or a CELOS. Due to the different rocker arms, damper specifications and suspension fork lengths, we achieve the right geometry for each variant. Numerous test results confirm that we realize optimal riding characteristics for every model. The TARVO always has the particularly strong and robust Superduty Layup, which is required for enduro use. Therefore a conversion of ASCO and CELOS frames with the extra light Featherweight Layup into a TARVO is not allowed. The conversion of older TARVO frames to ASCO or CELOS frames is not possible due to geometric restrictions.
TARVO - frame platform
TARVO - handmade in Germany

Handmade in Germany

In addition to the quality of fiber and matrix, the manufacturing quality is decisive for the lightweight construction potential. Only if the prepreg layers are optimally pressed together, a load-bearing structure can be created. This requires craftsmanship and care as well as the masterful control of the manufacturing process itself. In the autoclave process, the material undergoes strong compression due to the applied pressure. At the same time, a vacuum is created in the laminate to remove residual air. Careful process control using process data allows us to verify the quality of each individual frame.

Robust Lightweight construction

We rely on large-dimensioned, full complement bearings from Endurobearings at all bearing points. The screw connections of the main and rocker arm bearings are designed in the robust size M14. The threaded inserts are made of titanium. The laminate structure with reinforcing layers for extreme loads and the selection of fibers with high ductility take into account the demanding use in the enduro sector. Carbon as a material shows hardly any signs of fatigue, so that the frame can be used for a long time.
TARVO - robust lightweight construction
TARVO - cooperation with EFBE

Cooperation with EFBE

In addition to lightweight construction, function and safety are basic requirements for us. That’s why, in addition to practical testing, we rely on extensive lab testing. For more than two decades, we have been working together with EFBE Prüftechnik GmbH in Waltrop, just north of Dortmund. After numerous tests, some of which go well beyond standardized requirements, we approve the TARVO frame for use in category 5 according to ASTM F-2043-13. In order to use the entire bike in this category, suitable components must be assembled. The frame can be used in enduro races.

Spare Parts

Spare parts such as the down tube guard, chainstay guard, bolts and all bearings are available at short notice. The bearings have external dimensions according to common industrial standards. In case of urgency compatible bearings are easy to source worldwide. We install only high quality, very well sealed bearings from Endurobearings in full complement design (some stainless steel). In principle, spare parts are stocked for the long term, so that nothing stands in the way of years of use of the frame. Due to local production and keeping the molds on hand, we can also make entire frame parts available in the long term - should, for example, our crash replacement be called upon.
TARVO - Spare Sparts
TARVO - custom painting

Custom Painting

The frames are painted by Lars Diedenhofen in Hagen. With about 90 grams, the lacquers are very light and give room for individual designs. The frames are lightly sanded before filling. Then the actual paint coat and decals are applied, followed by multiple layers of clear coat. Sanding is carried out several times between the work steps. This way, the logos can be realized in a barely perceptible way. In addition to single-color paint jobs, more complex designs and smaller sample paint jobs are possible on request.

Warranty and crash replacement

Our carbon frames are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for 6 years. If the frame is damaged due to a crash, our Crash Replacement Program will take effect. Since we can stock or re-produce the individual parts of the frame, it is rarely necessary to replace the entire frame. The Crash Replacement is valid within the first three years from purchase and includes a 50% discount on the respective frame components.

RESPONSIBILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Good conditions with regard to environmental protection and occupational safety are particularly important to us - whether on site in Dortmund or with our partners and suppliers. That’s why we attach great importance to ensuring that our suppliers come from free democratic countries and that the supply chain is traceable and transparent. The carbon fibers come from Japan and are processed to prepregs in Italy. The lamination of the frames and the milling of the aluminum parts are done in Germany. The storage compartment bags are sewn in Portugal. Finally, all individual parts are tested, assembled and, if desired, built up to a complete bike at our manufactory in Dortmund. We work 100% with green electricity (Naturstrom). Packaging and padding material as well as cardboard boxes are reused where possible. In addition, we try to act as regionally as possible and avoid unnecessary transport.
